Mondi has improved its scores across all categories in the Environmental Paper Company Index (EPCI) 2017, a WWF tool to promote transparency and continual improvement in the pulp, paper and packaging sector. Mondi has participated in the Index since its inception in 2010 and has demonstrated continuous environmental improvement over time. “We’re grateful for this valuable tool, which not only helps us benchmark our sustainability performance over time but also inspires us each year to improve,” explains John Lindahl, Mondi Group technical and sustainability director. “I am pleased that Mondi has managed to improve steadily across all of our relevant categories. It’s a testament to our ongoing commitment to transparency, and confirms that the hard work is paying off as we walk our sustainability journey.” WWF’s EPCI tracks responsible sourcing, clean production and environmental management system reporting over time, helping participating companies and sectors improve their sustainability. Mondi has again improved its ecological footprint in the three WWF reporting categories: Graphic Paper, Packaging and Pulp. For Graphic Paper, Mondi has achieved a result of 85.5% in 2017, up from 81.4% in 2015 and 74.9% in 2013. Mondi’s overall 2017 result for Graphic Paper is based on sub-category scores of 82% for sourcing, 76% for clean production, and 100% for transparency. In the category of Packaging, Mondi received an overall score of 85.6% in 2017, up from 83.8% in 2015 and 73.7% in 2013. Mondi’s sub-category scores for Packaging in 2017 were 88% for sourcing, 87% for clean production, and 82% for transparency. In the Pulp category, Mondi received an overall score of 70.4% in 2017, up from 69.4% in 2015 and 63.2% in 2013. The group’s sub-category scores for Pulp were as follows: 72% for sourcing, 73% for clean production, and 65% for transparency. Together, the EPCI 2017 participants from Europe, South America, Africa, Asia and North America, have disclosed the environmental performance behind 26% of the world’s tissue, 23% of its graphic paper, 17% of its newsprint, 9% of its packaging and 15% of its pulp.
